Jeffrey Neal Bain, 52, appeared with Texarkana lawyer Craig Henry before U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey for formal sentencing on two counts of possession with intent to distribute meth and a single count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana at a hearing in Texarkana's downtown federal building.

Hickey sentenced Bain to 63 months in federal prison on the meth charges and 12 months in federal prison for the marijuana charge. Hickey ordered all of the terms to run concurrently.

Bain reportedly bought and sold more than a kilo of meth in the months before he was caught, according to court documents used to create the following account. Bain's charges stem from drugs found in his possession in December 2013 and June 2014. A federal grand jury indicted Bain in September 2014.

Bain was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond following his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Bryant in October 2014. However, Bain was jailed in March 2015 after he submitted several urine specimens that tested positive for meth. He has been behind bars since.

Before his first arrest, Bain worked for Hempstead County as a heavy equipment operator for more than 20 years, according to a sentencing memorandum Henry filed. He was fired as a result of his drug abuse and legal problems.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Ross handled the case for the government.
