Texas-side council OKs water supply contract with TexAmericas Center

Texarkana, Texas, City Council voted to enter into a water supply contract with TexAmericas Center and two tri-party agreements during its regular meeting Monday at City Hall.
TexAmericas Center is transferring its utilities operations to Riverbend Water Resources District. The city has water agreements with TexAmericas Center.
All board members present voted to enter the contract. Ward 5 council member Christy Paddock was absent.
No one spoke during the public hearing time before the vote.
Council members also voted to invite the Texarkana, Ark., Board of Directors to participate in a Joint City
Matters Committee.
The issue was on the agenda as a public hearing with a council vote scheduled for May 23. Ward 3 council member Tina Veal-Gooch requested to fast-track the issue as there was no opposition.
"We look forward to working with our sister city," Mayor Bob Bruggeman said.
According to information from the agenda, the idea of establishing a Joint Matters Committee of elected officials from both cities has been discussed for a couple of years. The concept is for elected officials of each city to meet periodically to discuss matters of mutual interest.
He said the city would be in contact with Texarkana, Ark., to determine the next step for the committee.
