The Caddo Area Council Boy Scouts Learning for Life program celebrated all the volunteers and participants who make it possible with its annual luncheon Friday at the Boy Scout Center.

Learning for Life goes into schools and teaches kids about career and character education.

Fred Markham, vice chairman of the National Learning for Life board spoke at the luncheon.

"As I sit here listening to you, I really want to spend more time thanking folks. I'm real impressed with the work being done in our region," Markham said. "We are very fortunate to have things going on that aren't present in all other councils around the
country."

"Let me thank the teachers, principals and superintendents for recognizing the value of this program and letting it happen in your schools," Markham said.

Linda Willis, the local Learning for Life director, was recognized for her contributions to the
program.

"We're so blessed to have someone dedicated to this program," said Guy Wilemon, Caddo Area Council scout executive.

Generous donors have also played a part in Learning for Life's success in area schools.

Many area schools partner with Learning for Life because of the lessons about life its teaches students.

"It's a wonderful benefit for our kids and we love our partnership with Learning for Life," said Todd Williams, Pleasant Grove Independent School District. "It gets kids to think about things outside of school. Educating children is about more than what goes on inside a school. This program teaches leadership and character and gets them to think about things outside of school."

Many of the speakers who volunteer with Learning for Life attended the luncheon including representatives from police departments, fire departments and Federal Correctional Institution
Texarkana.
