The Arkansas Civil Service Commission's annual meeting is slated for 4:30 p.m. Monday at Bi-State Justice Building in the Arkansas-side police training room, said Cpl. Kristi Bennett, TAPD spokeswoman.

According to the agenda, TAPD Chief Bob Harrison will request that promotional exams take place in October this year and brief the commission on preparation changes of the exams for promotion to sergeant, lieutenant and captain. Dr. Tom Jordan is serving as proctor for the exams.

Harrison will also brief the commission on changes to the department's General Order Manual on Arkansas Chiefs of Police Best Practices and ask for permission to continue "emergency hiring" for certified law enforcement officers since the next police academy will not take place until September.

The Arkansas-side Fire Department is expected to request a date change for the annual promotional/entry exams and to certify the promotional/entry lists for 12 months-longer than usual.

Officer elections are expected to take place after the opening of the meeting.
