De Queen Library offers adult coloring books

Trying to get children and grandchildren ready to go back to school can be stressful, but the De Queen, Ark., Library is offering adult coloring book activities to soothe the nerves of parents and grandparents.

The idea was developed by Johnye Fisher, head librarian for Sevier County, Ark., who thought adults would enjoy a free chance to create coloring book art.

"Using a coloring book helps me. It's sitting down and doing something out of the ordinary that makes me feel less stress. This time of year can be stressful, getting kids back to school," said Fisher.

The coloring books have geometric shapes and images of flowers to color.

"We tried it last week and no one participated. Maybe they will get used to the idea and try it next week," she said.

The program is offered each Wednesday in August at 10 a.m.

"It can help people meet other people and who have the same interests," Fisher said.

"I just thought we needed to do something for the adults."
