Texas Workforce Commissioner Julian Alvarez will present a check for $109,581 to Texarkana College today at 3 p.m. at Alcoa Mill Products.

The money will fund critical technical training needs for restarting production at the plant. Alcoa, which has been idle since 2009, announced last September it would resume its operations at the Nash, Texas, plant. They have since hired close to 80 employees to get ready for production of aluminum slab for use in automotive, aerospace and other industrial markets.

The Alcoa Inc. Foundation will also present a $40,000 check to the Texarkana College Foundation for the advancement of TC's new Industrial Maintenance program. It will enable the school to purchase a state-of-the-art hydraulic system, which will provide TC students and incumbent manufacturing employees the opportunity to train on all types of hydraulic units.

The presentation will be held at Alcoa, 300 Alumax Drive, Nash, Texas.
