Gentry Chevrolet is building a sales lot in De Queen, Ark., that will double the capacity of their current sales inventory.

"We've purchased 12 acres for the new lot," said Renee Cook, office manager. "We won't use it all initially, but we will have space for a thousand or so cars at first."

"Right now, we have space for about 500 cars, totalling both new and used," Cook said.

Gentry Chevrolet is currently located at 801 W. Collin Raye Drive, but the new sales lot will be on the east side of town on U.S. Highway 71, an official said.

The reasons for the new facility are two-fold. General Motors seeks to standardize their car lots as much as possible and Gentry needs the additional space.

"With the new facilities, not only will we have more sales space, but we will also have a much improved service department, with more mechanics stalls," Cook said.

The new service center will also offer fast oil changes, a bigger customer lounge and a care area for children.

"In addition, our parking space for both our customers and employees will greatly expand," Cook said.

Gentry Chevrolet is co-owned by Kenneth "Bud" Gentry Jr. and Jimmy Ray Gentry. They bought the lot in 2008, which was then known as Roberts Chevrolet.

The expected opening date f is Nov. 1.
