A trial date has been set for a 74-year-old man accused of robbing an area bank.
Johnny Crawford, 74, of Winnsboro, Texas, will have a pretrial hearing Aug. 31, and a trial date is scheduled for Sept. 19 in the Hempstead County, Ark., Circuit Court in Hope, Ark., Circuit Clerk Gail Wolfenbarger said.Crawford has been charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm by a certain person, threats of physical and serious injury and burglary. He allegedly robbed the Bank of the Ozarks in the 1300 block of North Hervey in Hope about 1:30 p.m. Feb. 16.
Crawford reportedly entered the bank, pointed a handgun at a teller and demanded money. He allegedly fled the bank and drove away in a blue Ford Explorer, traveling south on North Hervey. A Hempstead County sheriff's deputy located the suspect's vehicle traveling south on South Main Street. A traffic stop was conducted in the 2200 block of Bill Clinton Drive by officers of the Hope Police Department, Hempstead County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Crawford was taken into custody without incident. A handgun and undisclosed amount of cash were recovered, according to Sheriff James Singleton. He remains in the Hempstead County Detention Facility.
