The search continues in Little River County, Ark., for fugitive Christopher Whistle, 38, of Texarkana, Ark., who is wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on federal drug warrants, Sheriff Gary Gregory said.

The law enforcement agencies suspect that Whistle remains in the county.

Whistle reportedly ran into the woods about a mile north of Ashdown, Ark., about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 at Little River County Road 710.

Little River County Chief Deputy Dave Hall stopped Whistle's vehicle. When Hall was walking toward the vehicle, Whistle sped away.

Whistle drove to the dead-end road on Little River County Road 710, where he allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the woods.

"We worked until about 11 p.m. Tuesday trying to pressure him to come out of the woods if he didn't have any water or food," said Gregory.

About 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's department received a phone call about the possibility Whistle was near the abandoned Wilton E-Z Mart on U.S. Highway 71.

"We didn't find anybody and we've had no confirmed sightings," Hall said.

"We don't think he knows his way around the county and (he) will come out along the railroad," Hall said.

Whistle's address is listed as Texarkana, Ark.

He is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 170 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. Whistle was wearing a red shirt over a white tank top, blue jeans and boots.

If Whistle is spotted, call 9-1-1, Gregory said.
