Area woman chosen as outstanding state worker by Arkansas employee association

A local Arkansas state employee, DeAnna O'Malley of Texarkana, Ark., was chosen as this year's Outstanding State Employee by the Arkansas State Employee Association.

O'Malley, a rural health specialist with the Arkansas Department of Health, was one of many nominated for the Outstanding State Employee award, which is given to one who demonstrates excellent work ethic and outstanding community support.

O'Malley also is a car seat technician and a board member of Neighborhood USA.

Her volunteer efforts include helping with the contest for the dog park, organizing National Night Out, flood relief efforts and numerous other volunteer activities that benefit
the area.

The winner of the award was announced at a banquet in Little Rock. O'Malley received a certificate for being nominated, a state plaque for winning, a traveling trophy she will keep until next year's banquet and a $3,000 prize. She will be featured on the front of the next ASEA newsletter and will be interviewed for an upcoming commercial promoting state employment.
