Texarkana, Texas, residents have one final opportunity to tell the City Council what they think about a proposed property tax rate increase.

The council will hold a public hearing on the rate increase at 6 p.m. Monday in City Hall, 220 Texas Blvd.

The hearing will be citizens' last chance to publicly comment on the measure before the council votes on it Sept. 12. No member of the public spoke during a public hearing on the rate increase Aug. 22.

The proposed ordinance would increase the city property tax rate for fiscal year 2017 from $.669293 to $.70 per $100 of assessed valuation, funding a staff-recommended pay raise for city employees.
