Teen arrested in fatal shooting

An area man was shot to death Friday morning south of Hope, Ark., and a 16-year-old suspect has been arrested, according to Hempstead County, Ark., Sheriff James Singleton.

The 23-year-old victim was shot at a residence on Hempstead County Road 2. Though he has been identified, the victim's name had not been released at presstime.

The sheriff's department received a call at 9:56 a.m. Friday about the shooting. While en route to the house, Deputy Jeremy McBride was told the teenage suspect was riding a four-wheeler near the scene. He was taken into custody without incident, Singleton said.

Other deputies continued to the home where they found the victim's body.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Hempstead County Coroner Ben Brazzel.

The 16 year-old suspect remains in the Hempstead County jail.

Hempstead County Sheriff's Office and the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the shooting.
