Toys for Tots '15 campaign was a success, organizers say

Toys for Tots, led by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Center in Texarkana, had a great year collecting toys for those less fortunate.
More than 25,300 toys were distributed to 5,077 children in Cass, Bowie, Titus and Red River counties in Texas and Miller County in Arkansas. Families in Broken Arrow, Okla., also received assistance through the program.
"It was very successful," said Candice Williams, Toys for Tots coordinator. "We just want everybody to know that we're very grateful because without them this program would not be afloat."
Collecting and distributing so many toys takes a lot of help from the community.
"Businesses and individuals donating services and time make this happen," Williams said.
Of the toys distributed, 20,671 were collected locally, and approximately $24,500 in donated funds was used to purchase toys.
"In addition to that, we raised approximately $13,000. It's in the account for the 2016 campaign," Williams said.
Toys for Tots recently wrapped up 2015 with an event at Summerhill Winery and has begun its 2016 campaign.
"We look forward to 2016. Anyone that would be willing to donate services or time is welcome," Williams said.
