Fugitive nabbed on State Line

Man wanted for parole violation

A fugitive wanted by state and local authorities was arrested Monday evening by an area law enforcement task force.

John McBride, 42, fled from Miller County Sheriff's Office deputies Dec. 26 and has been hiding in various locations around Texarkana since. McBride was wanted for a parole violation by the Arkansas Department of Correction and for theft by receiving by the MCSO, according to a press release Thursday.

McBride was taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m. Monday at a motel in the 4200 block of State Line Avenue in Texarkana, Ark., without incident.

"During the arrest, two handguns were recovered and a search of the serial numbers revealed that one of the guns had recently been reported stolen during a burglary in Texarkana, Ark. That burglary is currently under investigation," the press release said.

McBride has been charged with being a felon in possession of a gun and is facing a new charge of theft by receiving for possessing a stolen firearm. Several others are wanted for allegedly hindering the search for McBride.

The arresting task force was made up of members of MCSO, the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department, Arkansas Community Corrections Special Response Team, Arkansas State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service. The Texarkana, Texas, Police Department provided several officers to assist in surveillance and with the arrest, as McBride was regularly moving between the two Texarkanas to avoid police.

The cooperation and assistance provided by all the agencies involved is "very much appreciated," Miller County Sheriff Ron Stovall said.
