Steel Magnolias

Beloved gospel group The Steel Magnolias of San Marcos, Texas, will be in concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, DeKalb, Texas.

The Steel Magnolias consists of a group of women who have continued to travel and share their ministry with churches, prisons and hospitals for over 10 years.

The group recently returned from a 16-day mission trip covering 15 states and 43 performances. They presented 13 "flash mobs" in New York city at places such as Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Liberty Island Ferry and the new One World Trade Center.

They were invited to sing at the Billy Graham Library and Samaritan's Purse in North Carolina and have performed across the U.S.

During a recent three-day tour, the ladies performed at the Calhoun County Jail in Anniston, Ala., where, according to the group members, the highlight of the trip was singing for 63 inmates that had recently given their hearts to Jesus and were baptized.

They fashion their performances after 1 Thess. 1:5, "The Holy Spirit puts steel in your convictions," sharing the message of Christ's love and salvation through choreographed music presentations, scriptures and powerful testimonies.

Admission is free and the community is invited to attend.

The church is at 204 NW Fulton, DeKalb.
