Double slaying suspect pronounced dead after shootout with officers

BROKEN BOW, Okla.-The suspect in a Sevier County Arkansas double homicide was shot and killed during a shootout with police Saturday night.

Andre Johnson, 40, was shot by police just after 10 p.m. Saturday in Broken Bow after leading officers from Arkansas and Oklahoma on a chase, acording to Broken Bow Police Department officials

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to help investigate the shooting. Agents will turn over their findings to the district attorney, who will determine if the shooting was justified.

There were conflicting reports late Saturday that the suspect had been taken into custody. However, Broken Bow police officials on Sunday said the suspect was shot during a gunfight with police and died a short time later at the Idabel, Okla, hospital.

On Sunday, the Sevier County Sheriff's Office and McCurtain County Sheriff's Office referred all questions to the OSBI.

Johnson was the suspect in a shooting that left a woman and man dead earlier Saturday in Horatio, Ark.

The victim's names had not been released by presstime late Sunday.
