Police: Elderly Ashdown woman sexually assaulted in her home

An elderly Ashdown, Ark., woman was reportedly sexually assaulted Sunday night or early Monday morning, according to the Ashdown police.

About midnight Monday, the police were summoned to the Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown, Police Chief Mark Ardwin said.

"The woman told officers she was attacked the previous night in her home
on Ellen Drive in Ashdown," Ardwin said.

"The case is being handled as a sexual assault and is being investigated by the Ashdown police," he said.

The evidence collected by police has been sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab in Little Rock.

The woman was transferred to a Little Rock hospital for additional treatment and has been released from the facility, he said.
