Beginning Friday, Arkansas-side political candidates can file to run in this year's general election. The filing deadline is noon Aug. 19.
Texarkana, Ark., residents on Nov. 8 will elect three Board of Directors members, from Wards 1, 2 and 6.
Ward 2 Director Laney Harris will run for his third consecutive term.
Ward 1 Director Allan Wren and Ward 6 Director Sue Johnson will not seek re-election. Both said recently that they have been honored to serve on the board, but they feel it is time to step down and focus on other priorities, including their families.
To get on the ballot, candidates must file a statement of financial interest and a petition signed by at least 50 registered voters who reside in the city. There is no filing fee.
Filing forms and instructions are available in the city clerk's office at City Hall, 216 Walnut St., or on the city's website, arkansas.txkusa.org.
Candidates must be registered voters at least 21 years old. They must have lived in the city for at least 30 days and live in the ward where they seek office.
Those elected will serve four-year terms, from Jan. 1, 2017, through Dec. 31, 2020.
