A local pawn shop owner was arrested Friday in connection with an alleged attempted murder-for-hire conspiracy.

William Duffer, 44, is the owner of Tri-State Pawn and Jewelry on North State Line Avenue in Texarkana, Ark. Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Black said Texarkana, Ark., detectives are unwilling to release details of the alleged crime at this time because the investigation is ongoing.

Duffer was released from the Miller County jail Friday on a $100,000 bail bond.

Black said her office will not make a decision on the exact charge or charges Duffer will face until the investigation by TAPD detectives is complete. Black said attempted capital murder is a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison.

Attempted conspiracy to commit capital murder is a Class A felony punishable by six to 30 years.
