Southwest Arkansas counties, cities get historic preservation grants

Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced today the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program has awarded more than $2.8 million in grants for projects in 54 Arkansas counties-including Miller County.

The city of Texarkana received a $33,170 Historic Preservation Restoration Grant for work at the 1927-30 Texarkana Municipal Building and a $10,002 Certified Local Government Grant for training for its Historic District Commission and staff and continuing work on a website. Main Street Texarkana received a $15,000 Downtown Revitalization Grant.

AHPP, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, awarded the money through its County Courthouse Restoration Subgrant, Historic Preservation Restoration Grant, Certified Local Government Subgrant and Main Street Downtown Revitalization Grant programs.

Other area Historic Preservation Restoration Grant recipients include the city of Hope, Legacy Initiatives for work in De Queen and Little River County Training School Alumni Association in Ashdown. 

El Dorado got $5,799 for training and administrative support through the Certified Local Government program, and its Main Street Program received a $15,000 Main Street Downtown Revitalization Grant.

County Courthouse Restoration Subgrants went to Lafayette County, which got $100,000, and Little River County, $71,356.
