A former student and sports stand-out at Liberty-Eylau High School was arrested this morning for an alleged sexual assault that occurred on school property Monday afternoon.

The Liberty-Eylau Independent School District Police Department arrested 17-year-old Denzel Green for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old female who was attending summer school. The alleged incident occurred in an unauthorized area of the high school campus after regular summer school hours. Green, who graduated from L-E in May, was not authorized to be on the campus, according to district officials. He is currently being held at the Bi-State Jail.

The girl said she was assaulted by Green when she went to the media center to get a drink Monday after summer school, according to a probable cause affidavit used to create the following account. The girl said she was afraid to tell anyone at first, but finally "got the courage" to tell her mother the following morning. The girl's mother contacted school officials, who contacted L-EISD Police Department.

The girl reported to police that Green told her he has wanted to have sex with her for some time and asked for her consent as the two both stood in the media center. The girl refused by stating that she "had a boyfriend and plus, I don't do things like that," the affidavit states.

"L-EISD administration is working to determine all of the facts surrounding the incident and are cooperating completely with the police department and prosecutor's office," district spokesman Matt Fry said in a press release. "As always, the safety and security of all L-EISD students and staff are our primary concern. We will evaluate and address any safety issues that may or may not have contributed to this incident."

The affidavit alleges second degree sexual assault. A second degree felony in Texas is punishable by two to 20 years in prison. Green is expected to appear before a magistrate judge in the Bowie County jail today. Bail is likely to be set at the hearing.

Bail has not been set.
