Several Southwest Arkansas preservation projects stand to gain a boost from grant funds distributed through the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.
The city of Texarkana, Ark., received a $33,170 Historic Preservation Restoration Grant for work at the Texarkana Municipal Building, which dates from 1927-1930.
The city's Historic District Commission and its staff received training funds via a $10,002 Certified Local Government Grant, while Main Street Texarkana received a Downtown Restoration Grant totaling $15,000.
Other local Arkansas projects receiving funds include $20,000 for Hope Girl Scout Little House restoration work in Hope; $56,712 for Hayes Hardware Building exterior restoration in De Queen; $28,000 for roof restoration at the Little River County Training School Home Economics Building in Ashdown; and $9,916 for restoration work at Moscow Cemetery in Prescott.
Downtown Revitalization Grants for Main Street programs help with building rehab work, parks, streetscape improvements and design-related projects.
Of the 20 Arkansas counties that received County Courthouse Restoration subgrants, several were in the region: $100,000 for Lafayette; $71,356 for Little River; and $122,850 for Union.
The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program is part of the Department of Arkansas Heritage and oversees and supports Arkansas cultural resources. The Southwest Arkansas grants are part of $2,842,862 in grants awarded.
