Genealogy workshop scheduled for Saturday

The Texarkana Museums System will host a genealogy workshop at 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. Saturday at the P.J. Ahern Home.
The workshop, Old Miller County and Regional Land Records, will offer ways to navigate public records and, specifically, use land records for family history. Such documentation can be hard to find because record repositories were moved and altered as state and national boundaries change. Modern Miller County was formed in 1874, but before this two other Miller Counties existed.
"When doing public records searches, it's important to understand that area in which your ancestors lived," said Jamie Simmons, TMS curator. "If your family lived in Miller County prior to 1874, those records are not going to be in our Miller County Courthouse."
The workshop will be presented by Chris Woodrow, head librarian at the New Boston Public Library. The cost is $10 per person. Materials are provided. Registration is preferred. To reserve a seat or for more information, call Simmons at 903-793-4831.
