TxDOT invites travelers to participate in Web-based survey on Interstate 30

Texas Department of Transportation officials invite East Texas travelers to sound off opinions and concerns about Interstate 30 by taking part in an online survey.

The survey, accessed online at surveymonkey.com/r/I-30EastTexas, is part of an ongoing study to assess corridor conditions and future transportation needs along I-30 from Farm to Market Road 2642-near the Rockwall/Hunt County line-to the Texas/Arkansas state line, said Marcus Sandifer, TxDOT Atlanta district spokesman.

"I-30 provides an important east/west connection for travel and trade," Sandifer said. "As the interstate system ages and population and trade increase in Texas, it is necessary to assess the current safety and capacity needs to plan for the future."

Located within the Paris and Atlanta districts, the study area covers about 145 miles over six counties, according to a TxDOT news release. The Dallas district is conducting its own studies from the Rockwall/Hunt County line to the Dallas metropolitan area.

Sandifer said local communities and leaders will be involved throughout the study to better incorporate community needs and concerns.

An I-30 Working Group composed of stakeholders along the corridor-such as individuals representing a cross-section of elected officials-will assist TxDOT in identifying and assessing transportation needs along the corridor, as they have in previous studies, a TxDOT release said.

"In addition, the Working Group will provide an avenue to engage the public, inform and gather input, as well as provide recommendations for TxDOT and other local entities," Sandifer said. "The I-30 East Texas Corridor Study is expected to have a series of Working Group meetings, either in person or through virtual means."

Working Group members will conduct public outreach activities to be incorporated into the study analyses and recommendations, a report said.
