Call of shooting at PG school turned out to be a hoax

Authorities are on alert amid a Facebook post about a possible shooting at Arkansas High

A 911 call Monday morning about a shooting at Pleasant Grove Middle School proved to be a false alarm.
Police received a phone call shortly after 9 a.m. Monday about a possible shooting at the school, said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department.
Police responded but no shooting had occurred.
"The school administration did not even know anything about it," Vaughn said.
He said the school was put on a brief lockdown while officers searched the campus, but nothing out of the ordinary was found.
Vaughn said police take threats seriously, but Monday's threat was especially concerning because of a threat against Arkansas High School that was making the rounds on Facebook over the weekend.
The TAPD received information Sunday from the Arkansas State Police regarding an unsubstantiated Facebook post about a possible shooting that was supposed to occur at Arkansas High School in Texarkana.
Investigators with the TAPD took immediate action Sunday and began trying to determine if the post had merit and whether it pertained to Arkansas High School.
As a precaution, officers from the Texarkana, Ark., Special Operations Section arrived at Arkansas High School at 5 a.m Monday and began securing and checking the area. Officers remained at the school and in the area all day.
TAPD also put additional officers in both unmarked and marked police cars patroling the Arkansas-side schools.
"In these types of situations it is better to enhance security and make sure we have enough resources at our schools to be able to respond to any potential problems," said a statement on the TAPD Facebook page.
Vaughn said it is illegal for someone to make a false threat.
"If we find out who is responsible for making the call, there will be an arrest made," Vaughn said.
