TexAmericas to allow military explosion device conversion firm to store products

The TexAmericas Center Board of Directors took measures Tuesday that will allow a business tenant a safe place to store its products.

Board members approved granting a license agreement to allow the Marshall, Texas-based Expal USA, a military explosive device conversion firm, a restricted storage area that is a safe distance from the center's inhabited business buildings.

The firm takes military-type explosives and reduces their explosive power down to a nonmilitary level, TexAmericas Center Executive Director Scott Norton said.

Norton said the measure is safety precaution.

In other business, board members agreed to have the center contract with Workforce Solutions of Northeast Texas to develop and provide a regional economic development partnership study along with a Texarkana region-wide market assessment and a workforce-needs analysis.

Workforce Solutions will pay the center $419,252 to conduct the study, assessment and analysis and deliver the results in one year.
