Police: Man shot in chest expected to survive; no arrests made yet

Texarkana, Texas, police are investigating an overnight shooting at an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Elizabeth Street, according to police spokesman Shawn Vaughn.

Officers were dispatched to a call about a shooting at Town North Apartments at 10:46 p.m. Monday, but were unable to a victim or any evidence of a shooting when they arrived. A short time later, officers were told a 21-year-old man had been dropped off at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System with a single gunshot wound to his chest, Vaughn said. 

"While there are several conflicting accounts as to what happened, a man who later arrived at the emergency room waiting room was identified as a possible suspect by witnesses. He was transported to the police department to be interviewed by detectives," Vaughn said.

The victim underwent surgery overnight and is expected to survive, according to Vaughn.

Police are investigating, but no arrests have yet been made in the shooting, Vaughn said.
