The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees has announced the May 26 appointment of Arkansas Rep. Mary P. "Prissy" Hickerson to the University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana Board of Visitors.

"It is an honor to be selected to serve on the (board) ... and I will do everything I can to help the college provide higher education to Texarkana and the Southwest Arkansas region," Hickerson said. "The college has been a wonderful asset to Southwest Arkansas for many years and is particularly one of the best additions to Texarkana, Ark., in many years."

Hickerson, of Texarkana, is serving her third term in the state House of Representatives. She represents District 1, which includes part of Miller County. She will be retiring from the General Assembly at the end of the calendar year.

UAHT Chancellor Chris Thomason said Hickerson was "a central force behind the creation and development of U of A Texarkana, and she continues to be a strong community advocate for both our campuses and the University of Arkansas System throughout the region and state."
