SRBA to host workshops in Paris, Texarkana

Attendees encouraged to RSVP for sessions on Dec. 1 and Jan. 31

The Sulphur River Basin Authority, in coordination with the Texas Water Resources Institute and the Lamar County Agrilife Extension, will hold two riparian and stream ecosystems workshops to give information on the role of riparian vegetation in properly functioning systems.

The first workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Love Civic Center, 2025 S. Collegiate Drive, Paris, Texas. The second will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan. 31, 2017, in the Great Room of the Truman Arnold Student Center at Texarkana College, 2500 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, Texas.

Riparian areas occur along the edge of water bodies and are crucial to a vital ecosystem. Presentations will be given on the importance of managing these areas in relation to water quality; how creeks function using Bear Creek as an example; riparian vegetation; management practices, local resources and photo stream monitoring; overview of the Sulphur River Basin; the role of forests and trees in watershed protection; and breakout sessions on improving the health of creeks and wild pig management in stream areas.

The workshops are free, and attendees can receive continuing education units. Lunch will be sponsored by SRBA.

Interested parties should RSVP for the Paris workshop by Nov. 25, and by Jan. 24 for the Texarkana workshop. Registration is available online at naturalresourcestraining.tamu.edu/schedule. For more information, contact Nikki Dictson at 979-458-5915 or [email protected].
