Texas State Bank plans to open a branch at the former Capital One location at the corner of Kings Highway and U.S. Highway 82 in Nash, Texas.

Texas State Bank officials are planning to open two area branches formerly operated by Capital One Bank.

"Subject to regulatory approval, we will be acquiring closed Capital One Bank locations in the area," said Joe Nichols, chairman and chief executive officer of Texas State Bank. "We will be taking over the Texarkana one located on the corner of State Line and Texas Boulevard. Also, we will operate the one in Nash."

Texas State Bank opened its first Texarkana offices in December 2012.

"We've been eyeing expansion in Texarkana ever since we got here," Nichols said. "Ever since we heard of those Capital One branches closing in July, we started communicating with Capital One shortly thereafter."

Texas State Bank got its start in 1937, opening its first bank in DeKalb, Texas. Over time, the bank expanded operations, opening branches in Clarksville, Texas, as well as Texarkana.

"This area we consider home," Nichols said. "Among the advantages for bank operations are a great pool of bankers to tap into, outstanding businesses operating here, and an area that is steadily growing economically, with much potential for more."

Even though this is an era of booming technological advance, Texas State Bank's operations have changed surprisingly little.

"What we do has mostly stayed unchanged," Nichols said. "Technology has increased the speed and efficiency of getting our services to our customers, but those fundamental services haven't changed."

"Texas State Bank is a meat-and-potatoes banking operation," Nichols said. "We open accounts, accept deposits, make loans, the basic services associated with a normal community bank. Just our speed and efficiency has gotten much faster. We are a traditional community bank is what we are."

With the new branches opening, Nichols says Texas State Bank will be taking on new employees.

"State Bank will be hiring eight to 10 new employees with its planned two branch expansion. We will be hiring tellers and customer service representatives as well as branch managers and loan officer positions. It will provide a great opportunity to our existing staff for promotions. Entry-level positions require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Experience is preferred."
