Woman, baby thrown from car in wreck

Texarkana, Ark., police are still investigating a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 30 that sent five people to a local hospital to be checked for injuries.

The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Friday nearly a mile east of the interchange at I-30 and Interstate 49, according to an Arkansas-side police spokesman at the scene.

The spokesman said something apparently caused a vehicle in the inner eastbound lane of I-30 to skid sideways and strike the median guard rail, ejecting an adult female and an 8-month-old child.

The spokesman added firefighters found the infant alive in the median's ditch.

The other three adult occupants remained in the vehicle during the wreck. At presstime, all five had been taken to a local hospital to be checked for injuries.

The spokesman said police were checking on another vehicle that may have been involved in the accident.
