Department of Education names Pittsburg a Blue Ribbon School

Pittsburg Intermediate School has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education.

One of 85 in the state to be given the distinction, it is also one of 279 public and 50 private schools to receive the honor.

To receive the award, schools are nominated by the state department of education, then complete an application on school practices.

Pittsburg Intermediate applied for status as Exemplary High Performing, which puts it among the top schools in the state. Schools could also apply as Exemplary Achievement in Gap Closing, which are those making the quickest progress in the state on closing achievement gaps among subgroups.
