An Ashdown, Ark., man was arrested Thursday in a residential raid where law enforcement agencies discovered 44 grams of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $4,450.

A search warrant was served just before 2 p.m. Thursday at a residence on Westside Drive in Ashdown, and Steven Deloney, 38, was arrested on drug charges and taken to the Little River County jail in Ashdown.

Officers found $1,100 cash, weight scales, the 44 grams of crystal meth and three grams of high-grade marijuana "Kush."

"The drugs have an estimated street value in this area of about $4,450. Deloney is facing the charges of possession with the intent to deliver controlled substances and possession of controlled substances," Ashdown Police Chief Mark Ardwin said.

The "Kush" is a high-grade marijuana with "three times the potency and price of marijuana," Ardwin said.

"It also has a smell similar to a skunk. It has a smell unlike regular marijuana. It's a pungent smell," he said.

The undercover investigation was conducted by the 9th West Drug Task Force, the Arkansas State Police, and the Ashdown Police Department.

"We must continue the battle of mind-altering, family-breaking and life-taking drugs. I could use many more adjectives to describe methamphetamine, but the point is that it is evil," Ardwin said.

Deloney remains in the Little River County jail Friday and is expected to have a first court appearance Tuesday.
