TASD to buy new computers, OKs salary increases

Buying furniture and computers were two actions taken by the Texarkana, Ark., School District Board of Education during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

Board members agreed to buy 108 new chairs and 18 new tables for the second- and fourth-grade classrooms at Fairview Elementary School at a cost of $12,576.

Board members also agreed to buy 25 new desktop computers for Kilpatrick Elementary School's literacy lab. The computers will cost $22,160.

In other business, board members approved a salary increase of 5 percent or more for 159 district employees for the 2015-16 school year. District records attribute reasons for the salary increases, including overtime, bonuses, bus driving, step increases for overtime, additional education accrued, job classification, change within the district, summer school hours worked, sick leave awarded and stipends.
