Texas Department of Public Safety has increased reward money to $8,000 for information leading to the capture of a most wanted sex offender this month, according to Sylvia Jennings, DPS spokeswoman.

Juan Carlos Pena, 51, is October's featured fugitive, wanted for failure to register as a sex offender and parole violation, Jennings said.

"Pena's last known address was in Spring, Texas, and he has ties to the McAllen and Houston areas as well as Reynosa, Mexico," Jennings said. "Pena may occasionally cross the border between Reynosa and McAllen."

Jennings said Pena has been known to work computer-related jobs and his criminal history includes assault, aggravated robbery and burglary.

To be eligible for a cash rewards, DPS reports state tipsters should provide information using one of 5 methods:

Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).

Text the letters "DPS"-followed by the tip-to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cellphone.

Submit a tip through the DPS website, dps.texas.gov/ by selecting the fugitive you have information about, then clicking on the link under their picture.

Submit a Facebook tip at facebook.com/texas10mostwanted (Click on submit a tip)

Submit a tip through the DPS Mobile App.

"All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous," Jennings said. "Regardless of how they are submitted."

Tipsters will be provided a tip number instead of using their name, according to police.

Pena stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds, Jennings said. He has tattoos, such as the phrase "Yolanda My Love" on his right wrist, and a unicorn with the word 'Charlie' on his upper left arm.

Pena also has a skull and eagle tattooed on his upper back and has scars on his right ankle and abdomen, according to his online wanted bulletin.

"DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and Sex Offender lists," Jennings said.
