The Girl Scouts-Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas are having a Pink U health and wellness event 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Texarkana College, Truman Arnold Student Center, 2500 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, Texas.

The event is open to girls 5 to 18 and their mothers. The cost to attend is $10 per person.

Participants will learn about healthy lifestyles.

There will be classes teaching aerobics, self-defense, nutrition, fashion and first aid skills. Participants will also learn the ins and outs of makeup application and build confidence and self-esteem in a modeling class. The day will conclude with a fashion show before an audience of breast cancer survivors and other guests.

"The purpose of the event is to teach girls about health and wellness and instill confidence. I think first and foremost they're going to have fun and they're going to learn new things, make friends and learn to live a healthy lifestyle," said Emily Eudy, program coordinator for Girl Scouts.

Texarkana College's culinary and cosmetology departments will volunteer their time during Pink U, an event partially funded by Susan G. Komen- Texarkana.

Pink U is not a drop-in event. Participants are asked to be there by 10 a.m.
