Hundreds gathered today to celebrate Texarkana, Texas' new designation as a state Cultural District, and to mark the occasion, a drone-mounted camera took the "largest ever photo in two states."

Groups from local schools and other organizations came together in front of the Downtown Post Office and federal courthouse under Texas and Arkansas flags suspended from a wire stretched between two extended fire truck ladders.

Texas-side Mayor Bob Bruggeman and Arkansas-side Mayor Ruth Penney-Bell read a joint proclamation praising the Cultural District.

Main Street Texarkana Executive Director Ina McDowell, Texas House Rep. Gary VanDeaver and Texas Commission on the Arts Executive Director Gary Gibbs spoke to the crowd about the importance of the arts to the community.

Celebrated Texarkana native H. Ross Perot attended with his sister Betty. "Couldn't have been a nicer ceremony," he said.
