Annual CASA color 5K run set for Sept. 24

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children is gearing up for its fourth annual Colorful 5K Run on Sept. 24 at Trinity Baptist Church, 3115 Trinity Blvd., Texarkana, Ark.

The 5K begins at 9 a.m. There will be a children's run at 8:30 a.m. and late registration begins at 8 a.m.

Participants will be powdered along the cross-country track at 10 different powder stations with nontoxic color. Wearing light colored clothing is encouraged.

There will also be bounce houses, a magician, sno-cones, tastings from Orange Leaf and Super 1 Foods and a knocker ball bounce area.

"It's just a fun event," said Leigh Davis, spokesperson for CASA. "It's something different we brought to the Texarkana community and everybody just loves the bright, colorful powders. It's a fun thing for the kids. It brings out a lot of children and families which is what CASA is all about-helping children and families."

Last year, approximately 350 people participated in run. Organizers are hoping for 400 to 500 this year and have set the goal of raising $50,000.

Money raised at the event benefits the programs of CASA, which serve more than 1,000 abused and neglected children in this area annually. Registration is $30 for those 12 and older. Registration for children 5 to 11 is $15.

CASA is also raffling a tiny house built by the Construction Technology Program at Texarkana College. The 200-square foot mini cottage will have heat and air and accessibility to electricity and plumbing. Tiny Casa Raffle tickets are $20 and are available at casatexarkana.org. The house will be given away at CASA's Tiny Casa- Giant Cause Raffle Party from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 at Hopkins Ice House on Gibson Lane.

Colorful Run registration is available at casatexarkana.org/colorful5k.
