Troop Commander hands in resignation

An Arkansas State Police Troop Commander in the Fort Smith, Ark., area has handed in his resignation to the ASP director, according to an ASP spokesman.

Spokesman Bill Sadler said Col. Bill Bryant received the resignation in a memorandum dated for
Friday.

Steven Bryan Davis, commander of Troop H, signed one-sentence memo, that stated "Please accept this as my letter of resignation from the Arkansas State Police to be effective immediately," an ASP report stated.

"The memo has been accepted by Col. Bryant and will be forwarded to the department's human resources section for processing," Sadler said in a release.

Sadler said in a phone call that he couldn't comment further on any alleged crimes committed, but said ASP was advised by Fort Smith Police Department that the commander was recently
arrested.

The director said in a release that he was disappointed by the alleged incident that led to the resignation.

" I believe it is of the utmost importance that we, as law enforcement officers, represent ourselves in an honorable and professional manner, and exhibit higher standards, both in our private lives and in our public duties, exceeding the principles and expectations of others,"
Bryant said.
