Fundraiser to aid Texarkana Fire Honor Guard

A fundraiser benefiting the Texarkana Fire Honor Guard will be held 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at Applebee's, 5110 Summerhill Road, Texarkana, Texas.

Ticket to the second annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast are $5 each.

Honor Guard teams are a common sight at funerals of police and firefighters, among other appearances. Their purpose is to give comfort and support to family members and fellow officers.

The recently formed Texarkana, Ark., Fire Department Honor Guard has 12 members. The Honor Guard is not sponsored by the city, but by the area firefighters union.

The proceeds raised at the fundraiser will go toward new uniforms, general upkeep and other necessary items.

"There are always classes available to help us out to do better, uniforms that need to be cleaned and maintained and general items," said Texarkana, Ark., Fire Department Capt. Michael Haynes. "We use these random fundraisers to help with the costs."
