A suspect is in custody after a bank robbery and car chase this morning on the Texas side.

Texarkana, Texas, Police Department officers responded to a reported robbery about 10 a.m. at Bank of the Ozarks, 2609 Richmond Road, said Sgt. Geoff Lewis, TTPD spokesman.

Shortly thereafter, a TTPD officer saw the suspect vehicle headed north on Richmond. Efforts to stop the vehicle failed, and a northbound pursuit reaching 80 mph followed.

The chase stopped where Richmond Road ends. The suspect, who was the only person in his vehicle, got out and reportedly fired one shot toward police officers. They ordered him to drop his gun. He complied, then was arrested and taken to the Bi-State Justice Building.

"He will be charged," Lewis said. TTPD expects to release the specific charges and the suspect's identity later today.
