Bass tourney raises $14,000 for nonprofit

The third annual Cooper Tire Big Bass Tournament was the most successful so far. There were 138 participants and the tournament raised more than $14,000 for the United Way of Greater Texarkana, $5,500 more than last year.

"This tournament has gotten bigger each year," said Mark Bledsoe, United Way CEO. "We are so thankful for Cooper Tire's support, fishermen, sponsors, and volunteers. Christine Linder, the tourney director, has done a fabulous job growing this event. She has put in a lot of hours to have a quality bass tournament."

Proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit the 2018 United Way campaign.

"It helps us a tremendous amount," Bledsoe said. "This money helps where there is a shortfall. It just keeps getting better every year. I was glad to see more boats, more participants and more volunteers. It was all-around greater participation."

The United Way of Greater Texarkana supports a variety of programs focused on improving education, health and economic stability.
