The Hempstead County Sheriff's Office recently purchased a used Smart car for its D.A.R.E. program. The vehicle was bought with seized funds from Prosecuting Attorney Christi McQueen, Sheriff James Singleton said. The Smart car will be used by the Hempstead D.A.R.E officer as she travels to schools throughout the county to teach the 10-week program. It will replace a 2006 Jeep Commander donated by Hope Auto in 2011. "I would like to thank Prosecutor McQueen for this piece of equipment and being a dedicated prosecutor that has always supported my office in our efforts to educate our children on the danger of drugs, alcohol and abuse," Singleton said.
