The Texarkana, Texas, City Council will consider changing language in the city ordinance on outdoor burning when it meets Monday in its regular meeting at council chambers.

The meeting will be 6 p.m. at 220 Texas Blvd.

The council is considering changing language to broaden the acceptable reasons to clear land with controlled fires.

It's a result of one man being denied a permit because by the current language of the ordinance, his plans for his property do not count as "land development."

Greg Latham filed an appeal to be decided by the City Council.

At the April 10 meeting, Texarkana, Texas, Fire Chief Eric Schlotter presented a revised ordinance replacing "land development" with a "land clearing operation" that includes clearing of vegetation to enhance property values, access or production.

The council voted to postpone a decision on Latham's appeal until after a vote on the new language.

In other business, the council will listen to a public hearing on a resolution supporting the Riverbend Water Resource District in
implementing the Corps of Engineers' Lake Wright Patman Ultimate Rule Curve and obtaining future water rights in Wright Patman Lake.

The council will also hear resolutions on approving and adopting an amendment to the Municipal Solid Waste Collection and Transportation Agreement and authorizing Texarkana Water Utilities to be charged
an administrative fee for the city's general
fund.
