Masked gunman robs bank, escapes on a bicycle

Witnesses say man later got into a Toyota SUV

Texarkana, Texas, police conduct their investigation Wednesday after Wells Fargo Bank, at the corner of New Boston and Summerhill roads, was robbed by a masked man with a handgun. The robber left on a bicycle before discarding the bike and getting in an SUV.

Wells Fargo Bank at 1718 New Boston Road in Texarkana, Texas, was robbed about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday by a male who left the area riding a bicycle.

The robber is a black male about 5'8" tall, weighing about 160 pounds and wearing black clothes, said Shawn Vaughn, public information officer for Texarkana, Texas, Police Department.

He waved a pistol at a teller and demanded money.

After taking the undisclosed amount of money, the man fled the scene on a bicycle.

Witnesses followed the man to the intersection of Melton and MacArthur streets, where he abandoned the bike and got into a charcoal gray Toyota 4Runner with temporary tags, Vaughn said. The vehicle was last seen headed west on New Boston Road.
