The Rev. Dr. Neal Presa, a former elected leader of the Presbyterian Church, will speak Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Texarkana, Ark.

"It's quite an honor for him to come to our church," the Rev. Susan Arnold said.

Presa will speak as part of the Malcolm Lecture Series.

Presa was the moderator, the highest elected position in the denomination, of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) from 2012 to 2014.

The Malcolm Lecture Series was established in the 1970s to bring gifted preachers to the area. One of those was another former moderator, Dr. Lawrence Bottoms.

Arnold said her church was able to obtain a visit from Presa because of former Christian education director Sarang Kang of Korea, who attended seminary at Princeton and knew Presa through her connections there.

"She is back in Korea now, but she knew him and invited him to speak at our church," Arnold said.

Presa's visit will include a roundtable discussion on reformed theology at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

The 11 a.m. sermon will focus on grace in anxious times. Presa will speak on how Jesus engages and addresses the anxieties and fears of the disciples in the past and disciples now. There also will be a guest bagpiper from Lyons College in Batesville, Ark., who will play as part of the worship service.

Presa has traveled extensively around the country, witnessing the unique presence individual congregations bring to their communities, Arnold said.
