Texarkana College will hold a public hearing at 11:30 a.m. today on a proposed tax rate increase that would give the college an additional $340,000 in revenue.

The proposed increase is from 11.0718 cents to 11.8115 cents per $100 assessed property value. Should trustees approve the tax hike, TC would still have one of the lowest community college tax rates in the state.

To compare the rates of colleges in East Texas, Northeast Texas Community College's rate is 13 cents, Kilgore College's rate is 17.5 cents, the rate at Paris Junior College is 17.730 cents, Tyler Junior College's rate is 19.993 cents and the rate at Panola Junior College is the highest at 24.334 cents.

The meeting will be held in the Patman Room of Truman Arnold Student Center, 2500 N. Robison Road. Trustees will vote on the proposed increase Aug. 26.
