Most stores have goods lined up efficiently on shelves, with signs pointing your way. You go in, get what you need and get out. Ginger Junction in Texarkana is not that kind of shop.

"When you step inside Ginger Junction, I want you to get that warm, welcome feeling," owner Maresha Cupp said. "When you walk in the doors, you don't see just goods stored on a shelf. It is an expression of creativity, and all the goods on display there are arranged in just that way. A lot of thought went into just how they are displayed."

The Atlanta, Texas, native has lived and worked in Texarkana for 17 years, learning the ins and outs of the retail business. When the time came to own her own store, things fell into place.

"We've heard the stories of those who plan for ages and lay out detailed plans for their businesses, but I didn't go through that," Cupp said. "It all just seemed to work out like it was supposed to."

Ginger Junction specializes in gifts for a wide variety of tastes, as well as home decor. Cupp said her focus is on being attentive to the customers.

"Each customer is welcomed warmly, and I focus on getting to know them and getting an idea of what need they are looking to fulfill here," Cup said. "It is all about personal service and making sure each customer gets something that meets each individual need."

Cupp sees her store as filling a need in Texarkana.

After years working in the gift shop retail business, she saw a void in Texarkana's retail offerings. So far, she has seen enthusiastic response.

"I've a talent for decorating and floral work, a God-given gift, and wanted to put them to good use," she said. "My family and friends have given me awesome support, and Texarkana is a great place to do business: friendly and cordial."
