Texarkana, Texas, police arrested a man late Monday morning on a murder charge in connection with the Sunday evening shooting death of a resident in the 3600 block of Jones Street.

Police arrested Takyme Devon James, 39, of Texarkana Texas, about 10:30 a.m. Monday at a residence in the 2100 Block of West 16th Street. James' arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting of Tony Sanders, 51, also of Texarkana Texas, said Texas-side Police Public Information Officer Shawn Vaughn.

Officers were dispatched to the report of a shooting at a residence in the 3600 block of Jones Street shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. Once officers arrived on the scene, Sanders' wife directed them to the inside of the house. There, officers found Sanders lying on the floor suffering from a single gunshot wound to his right hip.

The officers immediately provided first aid to Sanders before he received medical transport to Wadley Regional Medical Center by LifeNet Emergency Medical Services. There, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to witnesses, James and Sanders were involved in a fight earlier in the day over a bet on a football game. James allegedly came to Sanders' home, kicked open the front door and shot Sanders once with a handgun. James then allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle prior to the officers' arrival.

An arrest warrant for murder was issued for James early Monday. Police received a tip that the suspect was at a residence in the 2100 block West 16th Street.

Vaughn said that officers arrested James and took him into custody without incident. He is currently being housed in the Bi-State Justice Center Jail pending bond.
