The Salvation Army Angel Tree program is nearing its deadline and there are about 100 children who still haven't received gifts. People who would like to help are invited to buy clothing or toys and drop them off at The Salvation Army from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at 400 E. Fourth St., Texarkana, Ark. Donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Thrift Store from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at 420 Walton Drive, Texarkana, Texas.

Families benefiting from the Angel Tree program will pick up gifts Monday.

"We're down to about 100 kids from 300 when we put out our last appeal. Over the last week, we were able to fill about 200 of those," said Maj. David Feeser, Salvation Army commander. "We've pulled all the trees, but people still have some angels they took off the tree that they haven't brought back yet. We just need those back so we can buy for the ones that aren't returned."

Toys and clothing for children from birth to age 12 are needed, both boys and girls. "Really we can use anything," Feeser said. "We can use it to fill wishes for kids that haven't been taken. The biggest group we have is from the 5- to 8-year-old range. Something for those age groups would be most helpful."

The Salvation Army will make sure each child receives a toy. "We bought toys so we'll use those toys we bought, but there's no clothes or anything like that. Taking an angel and buying clothes for them is way better than us just giving them a gift," Feeser said.
